Prof. Ides Nicaise has a background in economics. He is senior research manager at HIVA (Research Institute for Work and Society) as well as professor 'Education and Society' at the Department of Education Sciences of the University of Leuven. He specialised in social policy, more precisely the relationships between education, labour market policy and social inclusion (in rich as well as developing countries). He conducted extensive comparative research on the systemic determinants of inequalities in education, and on policy reforms for more equal opportunities. Besides his professional activities, he is chairing the Belgian Combat Poverty Service.
