Description

This brief paper presents the main Roma minority problems in Slovakia.

Roma population suffers from low levels of schooling and high unemployment. The Slovakian government has turned to education in another attempt to relieve the plight of deprived Roma children. In a contentious move, the Interior Ministry is proposing compulsory pre-school for high-risk three-year-olds followed by full-day ‘educare’ including during the holidays.
