Description

This report examines the role of education in fostering the economic integration of immigrants. It is organized in five sections.

In the first section, we look at the educational attainment of first and second generation immigrants in Europe, as compared to the US.

In the second section, we consider how language skills affect the educational outcomes and the integration of immigrants. In the next two sections, we investigate how the organization of schools and the characteristics of teachers influence the educational outcomes of both children with an immigrant background and native children.

In the final section, we discuss whether higher education can affect the attitudes of the native population towards immigrants and thereby favour their integration.
